This contract position involves providing legal services to a municipality, including handling litigation, trials, and administrative proceedings. The ideal candidate will bring strong communication, research, and writing skills, coupled with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
Job Responsibility:
Provide legal advice and representation to municipal departments, boards, and commissions, including attending meetings as needed
Prepare cases for trial, including conducting depositions of witnesses and drafting motions such as dispositive motions and motions in limine
Represent the municipality during trials, hearings, and proceedings before courts, administrative agencies, and other governing bodies
Conduct legal research and draft comprehensive legal opinions based on applicable statutes, case law, and municipal regulations
Ensure compliance with the city’s charter, ordinances, codes, and policies in all legal matters
Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, briefing, and motion practice
Draft clear and concise legal documents with attention to accuracy and detail
Address additional legal tasks and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
Licensed attorney with experience in civil litigation and trial practice
Proven ability to draft motions, briefs, and other legal documents effectively
Strong skills in conducting discovery and managing litigation processes
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to adapt quickly and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of municipal laws, regulations, and administrative procedures
Proficiency in legal research and analysis
