Literacy Support Assistant

• Support students on a one-to-one and small group basis to improve their reading skills and confidence
• Assess and monitor pupils’ reading levels and progress
• Identify pupils who may require additional literacy interventions and support
• Encourage a love of reading and promote positive engagement with literacy
• Work within the school library to create an inclusive and welcoming learning environment
• Collaborate closely with teaching staff, SEN professionals, and pastoral teams to ensure pupils receive the support they need
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to review meetings where appropriate

• Driver required – rural location
• Has a genuine passion for literacy and reading development
• Enjoys working with children and young people with SEND and SEMH needs
• Has experience supporting pupils in an educational, youth work, care, or similar setting
• Can build strong, trusting relationships with young people
• Is patient, empathetic, and resilient
• Has strong communication and organisational skills
• Holds HLTA status or has relevant experience equivalent to this level (desirable but not essential)
