Provides student-centered ESOL and digital literacy instruction, with career and college readiness focus, to adult English learners. Works primarily at off-campus program locations, such as Picknelly Adult & Family Education Center (Holyoke), or Springfield Technical Community College.
Job Responsibility:
Provides student-centered ESOL and digital literacy instruction, with career and college readiness focus, to adult English learners

Guides programming related to student leadership and/or digital literacy, including coordinating and supporting the work of student ambassadors
Supports enrollment, assessment, intake/recruitment, and other program functions as requested
Collaborates with instructors, advisors, and other members of team on program planning, curriculum development, student support, coaching, etc
Provides high quality, communicative ESOL instruction related to skill development and college/career readiness
Builds culturally responsive classroom spaces and a community that supports success for all students
Incorporates numeracy and critical thinking into language instruction
Designs a digital learning space for classes taught, and mechanisms that support the development of students’ independent learning skills
Intentionally builds student skills using Canvas, Zoom, and other platforms
Works closely with program leadership, Career Advisors, and colleagues to provide comprehensive instruction and support
Designs classes in accordance with Educational Functioning Levels (EFLs), Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards, and program policies and procedures
Selects and develops student-centered materials for classroom use, in accordance with program curriculum
Provides leadership for one of the following areas, by collaboratively designing strategies, facilitating implementation, and tracking outcomes: Student Leadership: Supports students serving in leadership roles within the program, such as student ambassadors, Conversation Café facilitators, peer mentors, etc. (including coordinating the work of any student workers)
Digital Literacy: Develops and supports strategies for consistent digital skills development across ESOL offerings, through assessment and instruction
Works closely with team to develop and maintain student assessment schedule in order to meet program goals and fulfill funding requirements
Assesses ESOL students in reading, writing, speaking and listening using DESE standardized assessment tools
Participates in program planning, curriculum development, and program continuous improvement
Engages in program-wide projects including collaborative curriculum design
Maintains timely and accurate student records including attendance, assessment and other data
Conducts intake/screening interviews with prospective students
Includes required evening work (1-3 nights per week) to support these responsibilities, including teaching, facilitation, and/or assessment
Supports daily operation of program sites, including planning and execution of school-wide events
Collaborates and builds positive working relationships with partners including HCC & STCC adult education, HCC Academic ESL and Transition to College, and other college and community partners.
Requirements:
Master’s degree and/or TESOL Certification
At least 3 years’ experience in ESOL instruction
Strong written and interpersonal communication and technology skills
Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work effectively and flexibly with diverse students, staff, and faculty.
Nice to have:
Trained to administer and score TABE-E reading, writing and/or BEST+ 3.0 Speaking/Listening Assessments
Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, Creole, French, Ukrainian, Russian, Vietnamese or another language in addition to English
Familiarity with DESE-funded Adult Education system (including MA English Language Proficiency Standards and College & Career Readiness Standards)
