We are seeking an LIS Interface Engineer to design, implement, and support integrations between Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Proscia’s Concentriq digital pathology platform. This role sits at the intersection of healthcare interoperability, customer workflows, and software engineering. You will be responsible for building and maintaining HL7-based interfaces, collaborating with internal product and implementation teams, and working directly with customer technical stakeholders to ensure seamless, reliable data exchange across complex laboratory environments. This role requires someone who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and comfortable reasoning through real-world clinical workflows—not just message specs. It also requires someone who’s already rethinking how this kind of work gets done. At Proscia, AI tools aren’t a side experiment—they’re how we work. You’ll use them every day to work faster, more accurately, and at a higher level of quality than traditional approaches allow. If you’re the kind of engineer who’s already doing this—or is restless to start—you’ll fit right in.
Job Responsibility:
Evaluate client information systems that need to interface with the Concentriq image management system, including anatomic pathology laboratory information systems (AP-LIS), interface engines, or other middleware
Implement integration solutions utilizing documented product procedures and industry best practices using AI tools to rapidly prototype, validate, and iterate on interface logic
Work with Implementation Project Manager to establish project interface milestones
Manage interface components of the project plan and ensure timelines are met
Resolve complex customer issues in creative and effective ways—you’re resourceful, whether that means deep-diving into HL7 specs, leveraging AI to accelerate your analysis, or bridging a gap between business context and technical constraints
Educate customers on Proscia’s interface implementation process, including the integration framework and specification review
Educate customers on application and interface support
Assist customers with HL7 message review and initial testing, bringing modern tooling and thoroughness to validation
Develop and maintain interface implementation methodology and supporting materials, documenting decisions and context clearly so that a colleague and an AI agent could pick up where you left off
Provide second-level support for complex interface-related issues
Document customer configuration accurately to facilitate timely transition to Support
Participate in Customer Success project meetings, providing status updates and escalating issues
Provide feedback to continually improve processes—you actively look for places where automation and AI tools can improve quality, reduce friction, and raise the bar on what we deliver
Lead detailed technical planning with customer IT staff and deliver technical briefings—you communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, internally and externally
Work with product managers and developers to define and review interface-related requirements
Provide content and outlines for interface-related product documentation, maintaining quality and currency as the product evolves
Own interface test coverage—build, automate, and maintain realistic test cases that scale with the product, using every tool at your disposal including AI
Provide interface-related training to QA and Customer Service Engineers, including how AI tools can help them triage and resolve interface issues independently
Help build and maintain internal standards and documentation that make our integration systems more efficient for both humans and AI agents
Requirements:
At least 3 years of interface implementation and product development experience within a healthcare information systems vendor or provider environment
Working knowledge of HL7 standards applied to a variety of ADT, Order, and Results interface integrations and the judgment to know when to reach for AI tools to accelerate your work through unfamiliar territory
Business or technical presentation or teaching experience
Ability to own your work end-to-end and collaborate as an engaged team member—you proactively propose fixes and improvements rather than waiting to be assigned
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with executive, technical and non-technical individuals within and outside of Proscia—your written communication is strong enough to document decisions and context for humans and for the AI tools that increasingly work alongside us
Minimum bachelor’s degree in technical field or equivalent experience preferred
Demonstrated experience with Iguana or similar interface engine (ex. Mirth Connect)—bonus if you’ve already used AI tools to write or debug interface scripts
Ability to travel (approximately 10-20%) across the EMEA region
Familiarity with REST APIs
Experience building with or on top of LLMs, AI agents, or agentic pipelines
Familiarity with prompt engineering, tool use patterns, and evaluation/testing of AI systems
Real, daily comfort with AI tools in your workflow. Not “I’ve tried ChatGPT”—more like “I use copilots and agents routinely and I’m always evaluating what’s next.” You actively refine your understanding of where AI excels and where it fails—the jagged frontier—and you share what you learn with others
Project management experience highly desirable
Nice to have:
Open-source contributions, side projects, or a portfolio that shows how you think and build
Background that spans multiple domains or disciplines—you’ve reinvented yourself before
Active in technical communities, forums, or meetups—you stay close to where the field is moving
What we offer:
Competitive pay
Savings, schedule, and insurance options that promote long-term health and personal growth
