A Line Cook prepares, cooks, and plates dishes to the restaurant's specifications. They work in a fast-paced kitchen environment and must be efficient, organized, and able to work well under pressure. The position typically requires knowledge of different cooking methods, ingredients, kitchen equipment, and processes to ensure high-quality food preparation and presentation.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare ingredients and dishes according to the recipe and kitchen standards
Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times
Wash, chop, measure, and prepare ingredients for use during service
Portion food items, season, and cook them according to the chef's instructions
Cook and assemble dishes to meet restaurant and customer expectations in terms of quality, portion size, and presentation
Plate finished dishes and ensure they are visually appealing and accurately represent the restaurant’s brand
Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies (mise en place) before the shift begins
Maintain cleanliness and organization of your assigned station throughout the service
Communicate with other kitchen staff to coordinate the preparation of meals during service
Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, and other cooking tools safely and efficiently
Maintain the functionality of kitchen equipment by reporting any malfunctions or safety hazards to the manager
Clean and sanitize workstations and kitchen equipment at the end of the shift
Follow the restaurant’s guidelines for proper storage and waste management
Work closely with the rest of the kitchen team to ensure smooth and timely service
Assist with additional tasks such as inventory, prep work, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness
Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and front-of-house personnel
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Proven experience as a line cook or in a similar role
Knowledge of various cooking techniques and methods (e.g., grilling, frying, sautéing)
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Food safety and sanitation certification (a plus)
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items
