Award-winning firm, L’Observatoire International, is seeking to engage with passionate lighting design students or recent graduates for exciting internship opportunities with our NYC office. Projects at L’Observatoire include design for renowned architects and designers, and with a wide variety of project types and scales. Internship candidates must be committed, independent workers, and willing to learn.
Job Responsibility:
Collaborate as well as gain guidance from design team through various design stages
Work within team to create lighting design presentations, including
visualizations, 3D modeling, historical research, and lighting precedent images
Utilize various software to assist in creating lighting documentation such as lighting layouts and sketches
Perform lighting calculations to inform project decisions and validate concepts
Create models, mock-ups and prototypes, with fixture samples to test lighting effects
Other duties may include assisting design teams at meetings in the studio, on-site mock-ups, on-site lighting focusing and scene-setting
Non-lighting design related tasks such as assisting with office administration, and fixture library organization
Requirements:
Currently pursuing (or have completed) a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Lighting Design, and Theater Design
Interest in lighting design with an emphasis on architectural lighting design and daylighting
Eager to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Knowledge of the following software programs: AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Google Sketchup, Rhino, AGi32 and/or Dialux, Microsoft Office, Revit, and Google Slides
Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner
Proficient in remote team working via online platforms that involve conference calls and work-sharing
Interns are fully responsible for their own legal status to perform work in the United States
Nice to have:
Flexibility in schedule is preferred due to the nature of site visits that may occur after dark
