Requirements

Attend the pre-class orientation and swim test on Thursday, February 26th from 5:00 – 8:00pm
Be at least 15 years old at the start of the lifeguard certification class (classes held throughout March 2026)
Complete online (hybrid) portion of StarGuard class prior to class start
Obtain valid StarGuard Elite lifeguard and CPR certification
Swim 50 yards continuous with head up
Swim 50 yards continuous with a rescue tube across the chest
Tread water for 1 minute without use of hands
Retrieve a 10 lb. brick at a depth of 12 feet
Attend the mandatory new employee orientation April 15th & 16th from 4:00 – 7:00pm (at Goodyear Recreation Center)

Must have or be willing to obtain lifeguard shallow water attendant certification along with CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
Must be 16 years of age or older
High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required
Must obtain Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification through Ellis & Associates within 90 days of hire

Job Responsibility

Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum
Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum
Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents
Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary
Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner
Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills
Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction
Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter
Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues
Reports issues to management as appropriate
