Job Description:

As a Life Skills Worker in our Community Apartment Program, you’ll play a vital role in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to live independently in their own homes.

Job Responsibility:

  • provide comprehensive and effective support to individuals living independently
  • work one-on-one with clients, helping them build confidence and develop the everyday skills they need to thrive
  • budgeting

  • navigating public transit

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services
  • 2 years experience working with people who deal with concurrent disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training programs for clients
  • Experience with principles of positive behaviour management is desirable
  • A non-judgmental attitude, ability to relate to participants, work unsupervised, and generate/monitor workload
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Medical Clearance
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License is preferred)
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Demonstrated competency in English
  • Computer literacy
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Nice to have:

  • Experience with principles of positive behaviour management is desirable
  • Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License is preferred
