Job Description:

As a Life Skills Worker in our Community Apartment Program, you’ll play a vital role in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to live independently in their own homes. The nature of this position is to provide comprehensive and effective support to individuals living independently. You’ll work one-on-one with clients, helping them build confidence and develop the everyday skills they need to thrive. From budgeting and cooking to navigating public transit and more — no two days are the same!

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide comprehensive and effective support to individuals living independently
  • Work one-on-one with clients, helping them build confidence and develop everyday skills
  • Help organize and participate in fun monthly events, group outings, and shared dinners

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services
  • 2 years’ experience working with people who deal with concurrent disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training programs for clients
  • Experience with principles of positive behaviour management is desirable
  • A non-judgmental attitude, ability to relate to participants, work unsupervised, and generate/monitor workload
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Medical Clearance
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Demonstrated competency in English
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Eligible to work in Canada
