Job Description:

Licensed Practical Nurse Ambulatory position at Atrium Health Carmel Family Medicine. Provides patient care adhering to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Job Responsibility:

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered
  • Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
  • Cross trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military training per DD214 (or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years for IL/WI/Floyd & Navicent divisions)
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required (or needs to be obtained within 45 days for IL/WI/Floyd & Navicent)
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail
  • Demonstrates customer service skills
  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills
