Paid, temporary full-time Summer Library Internship to gain experience and fully immerse in the day-to-day activities of public librarianship, in the areas of circulation, reference, programming, and/or collection development.
Job Responsibility:
Contributes to library programming for all ages (story times, book discussions, outreach, craft or technology programs)
Assists patrons with basic use of library computers, internet, job applications, email, printing, photocopying, library catalog, personal devices, makerspace equipment
Offers suggestions and advice to patrons regarding reading, watching, and listening preferences
Creates displays and bookmarks using digital and physical resources
Provides general information about library services and facilities
Uses library management system to create and update patron accounts, process materials and payments
Assists with room rentals and reservations
Helps patrons at circulation, reference, and children’s service desks
Takes an active role in Summer Library Program by assisting librarians with children, teen, and adult events
Learns about collection development and library management
Requirements:
Current Library Science students or individuals with an interest in public librarianship who have completed their sophomore year in an associate or bachelor degree or higher
Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment
Basic internet research skills
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
A willingness to learn
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
