Job Description:

We are looking for an outgoing friendly person with good communication and customer service skills to join our library service. You will provide a quality service whilst meeting the learning and recreational needs of all who live, work or study in the city and elsewhere.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist the public in using and accessing library services from library counters, floors and workrooms
  • Deliver an effective Information, Enquiry and Reader Development Service
  • Issue and discharge books
  • Process new members
  • Support the delivery and development of activities, events and other library offers
  • Read stories to children and lead Rhymetime sessions
  • Cash handling duties
  • Assist people with using library computers
  • Responsibility for building security
  • Maintain the appearance of the library for service users
  • Stock shelves
  • Process orders of new library material stock

Requirements:

  • Good communication and customer care skills
  • Confidence working with the public
  • Ability to deal with challenging service users/disruptive visitors
  • Team player
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to different work situations and locations
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English
