Reporting to the Executive Head, you will be responsible for the management, development and for promoting the library and/or other learning resource centre, to ensure that all students and staff have ready access to as broad and relevant a range of reading matter, reference materials, research tools and information services as possible, in order to support teaching and learning throughout the school, facilitate independent learning, and encourage reading for pleasure.
Job Responsibility:
Create and develop a climate to promote and support reading for pleasure across the school
Plan and oversee the organisation of the school Learning Resource Centre, including the selection, acquisition, indexing, classification, promotion and maintenance of books and non-book resources
Develop the Learning Resource Centre/Library Management systems and structures to ensure it runs smoothly
Support curriculum leaders by selecting library resources tailored to their curriculum
Prepare resources for the teaching of Library skills and deliver these alongside English staff in reading lessons
Coordinate events and activities such as World Book Day, author visits, exhibitions, displays, reading schemes and House Competitions
Deliver library orientation sessions for the students at the beginning of the academic year, information retrieval workshops and promote reading in all aspects of student’s lives
Reinforce the Library Use Guidelines throughout the academic year through contact with Student Leadership and the Heads of the Schools
Ensure a high standard of displays, information posters, brochures and promotional material to enhance the standard of appearance of the library in order to provide an attractive environment conducive to the promotion of reading and purposeful study
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the services provided by the library/learning resource centre to ensure that it is meeting the needs of the school community
Disseminate information regarding newly acquired resources, potential acquisitions/subscriptions to Academic Department Heads
Implement and design a ‘virtual’ library to encourage reading in the digital age
Develop a social media presence for Literacy and the Library using the school’s social media platforms, newsletter and website
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Library & Information Science, or equivalent diploma
A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working as an international school Librarian
Fluency in English at an academic level
Information retrieval skills
Functional knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system
Awareness of current developments in library/resource centre management
Knowledge of issues related to Safeguarding children in school
Ability to deliver library related activities and enrichments to pupils
Nice to have:

Up to date with the latest marketing trends to deliver best-in-class campaigns
Critical thinking skills and experience and be comfortable creating spreadsheets to track and analyse data
