Join the Boise Public Library team as a Senior Librarian at our vibrant Collister branch, serving one of Boise's most engaged and family-oriented communities. In this dynamic role, you'll combine professional expertise with grassroots community engagement, building partnerships with local schools, neighborhood associations, and community organizations to ensure the library remains deeply connected to diverse resident needs. Your outreach efforts will extend beyond our doors, taking library services directly into the community. As a Senior Librarian, you'll exercise professional judgment in developing innovative programs, providing expert reference and reader's advisory services, and mentoring staff to deliver exceptional customer experiences—serving as a trusted resource, skilled problem-solver, and community advocate in a close-knit neighborhood known for its strong sense of community.
Job Responsibility:
Maintains an advanced knowledge of library resources and practices and an awareness of current trends and technologies
Serves on professional teams and work groups to advance librarianship efforts
Interprets and communicates library policies and procedures to library users and staff
Works to maximize usability and continuously improve the library user experience
Handles complex issues and problems
Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to lower-level staff
May act as first-level supervisor in absence of supervisor/manager
Performs all duties of lower-level librarian positions
Performs more complex, skilled tasks, and assists others as required
Building partnerships with local schools, neighborhood associations, and community organizations
Outreach efforts extending beyond library doors
Developing innovative programs
Providing expert reference and reader's advisory services
Mentoring staff to deliver exceptional customer experiences
Requirements:
Master's degree in library and information science
Four years of experience working in a public library setting developing and implementing library programs and providing reference and reader's advisory service
Knowledge of public library approaches, policies and procedures
Knowledge of theory and practice of reference services
Knowledge of intellectual freedom and open access
Knowledge of quality customer service techniques
Knowledge of print, electronic and web-based library resources
Proficiency with office software and ILS systems
Ability to demonstrate leadership to staff
Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities and populations, using tact, good reasoning and sound judgment
Ability to analyze and resolve customer issues
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
Ability to perform all essential functions as assigned with or without a reasonable accommodation
Applicants must be able to pass City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks
Nice to have:
Master's degree in library and information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university
Six years of experience in a public setting library development and implementing library programs
