We have an immediate opening for a Legal Secretary to support a solo practitioner in Berkeley. This is a great opportunity to join a quiet, professional office and assist with a practice focused on real property and business law litigation. This a long-term contract that is primarily hybrid. One day a week on-site in Berkeley is required to handle filings.
Job Responsibility:
Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence
Prepare and maintain tables of contents (TOCs) and tables of authorities (TOAs)
Handle electronic filing (e-filing) in state and federal courts
Assist with discovery responses, including organizing and formatting documents
Maintain and update case files and client records in Clio (database use only, not billing)
Coordinate scheduling for hearings, depositions, and client meetings
Make occasional outbound calls to screen potential new clients (no inbound calls required)
Provide general administrative support, including scanning, copying, and organizing document
Requirements:
Minimum 4 years of experience as a Legal Secretary in civil litigation
Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and filing procedures
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and familiarity with formatting legal documents
Experience with e-filing systems and case management software (Clio preferred)
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable working independently in a small office setting
Professional demeanor and discretion when handling confidential information
