A construction litigation law firm in Oakland is seeking a Legal Secretary to join the team on a contract-to-hire basis. This is an onsite position offering the opportunity to support a busy litigation practice, with openness to training candidates who have a solid civil litigation foundation and are looking to further develop their legal secretarial skill set.
Job Responsibility
Provide administrative and legal support to attorneys handling construction litigation matters
Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence
Assist with e-filing in both state and federal courts
Create and format Tables of Contents (TOCs) and Tables of Authorities (TOAs)
Manage attorney calendars, including tracking deadlines, court dates, and filings
Maintain and organize case files (electronic and physical)
Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel as needed
Support day-to-day office and administrative functions in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
Prior experience in a legal support role (legal secretary or legal assistant) preferred
Background in civil litigation required (construction litigation a plus)
Familiarity with state and federal e-filing procedures
Experience formatting legal documents, including TOCs/TOAs
Strong calendaring and deadline management skills
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Professional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Must be willing to work fully onsite in Oakland
