The Legal Invoice Analyst I is responsible for the prompt, accurate, and efficient auditing of electronically submitted legal fee and expense invoices from law firms and vendors. The selected candidate will ensure compliance with billing guidelines by adjusting invoice line items that violate provisions and documenting justifications for those adjustments. The analyst will also provide guidance to business unit partners on issues or opportunities within the Legal Billing Audit process.
Job Responsibility:
Efficiently and accurately review legal invoice entries
Receive legal invoice assignments from the Operations Support Specialist or self-assign tasks from the intake queue
Verify compliance with legal billing guidelines for submitted invoices
Ensure the accuracy of UTBMS task codes (Fee, Activity, and Expense codes) applied to invoice line items
Document reasons for any adjustments made to invoice line items, specifying the violated billing guideline and rationale for the adjustment amount
Forward audited legal invoices through the appropriate review chain as required
Collaborate with Legal Invoice Analysts and Quality Assurance Analysts
Exercise discretion and sound judgment when making audit and adjustment decisions
Demonstrate a strong understanding of legal terminology and claims-related legal situations, with multijurisdictional exposure preferred
Work independently with minimal supervision after training
Utilize electronic legal bill submission and auditing software efficiently
Organize work to ensure the prompt and efficient review of legal invoices within designated timeframes
Apply basic business math skills and maintain appropriate business telephone etiquette
Requirements:
Paralegal Certification or a Bachelor's Degree in a legal-related discipline, or equivalent work experience
1-3 years of experience in a legal services or legal auditing environment
Familiarity with legal billing processes
Strong understanding of federal and/or state rules of civil procedure
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with legal billing systems and processes
Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with the Legal Billing Audit Center of Excellence (LBACOE) and other business units while providing constructive feedback
