The role involves drafting practical guidance materials—such as long-form articles, annotated forms, practice notes, and checklists—focused on issues relevant to counsel practicing in this area. A strong focus will be on content related to: Real estate matters affecting state and local governments (e.g., eminent domain, zoning); Retirement and benefit plans for state and local employees; Regulatory requirements impacting practitioners in this space.
Job Responsibility:
Research, develop, edit, and draft practical guidance on state and local government topics
Draft, review, and annotate form documents, templates, and checklists
Monitor legal developments, trends, and news relevant to state and local issues
Update existing content to reflect recent legal changes
Collaborate with the editorial team as needed
Requirements:
J.D. from an accredited law school
Active or retired bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state
3+ years of experience in state and local government issues
Exceptional legal writing, editing, and online research skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and online legal research platforms
Strong practical writing ability with clear, concise communication
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively
