The successful candidate would be part of the Grid Integration business unit and be responsible for providing high quality legal advice on complex, high value tenders and projects ensuring full compliance with group directives and local legal obligations. Typical projects for this business unit include high voltage inter-connectors, offshore wind and substation construction, refurbishment and automation. The successful candidate would be an inhouse legal counsel for a large, multinational electrical engineering business. Typical tasks are outlined in detail below but mainly consist of providing your input into large scale contracts, identifying legal sources of risk and providing training and expertise to engineering and commercial staff.
Job Responsibility:
Provide expert legal advice for tenders and ongoing projects within the power infrastructure sector
Identify legal issues and sources of risk to the business unit and proactively develop strategies, solutions and mitigation actions to address
Support contract managers and project teams in dealing with claims to and from customers and subcontractors
Manage any disputes and litigations arising and working with external law firms where necessary
Ensure good corporate governance within your assigned area(s) of accountability
Support with any regulatory or anti-trust issues
Support the implementation of the code of conduct and assist in the investigation and resolution of any breaches
Provide training on legal issues including contract negotiation and integrity
Requirements:
Fully qualified as a lawyer/ solicitor in England and Wales with a strong legal background and knowledge
Experience relating to large scale construction/ engineering projects in the UK and Europe
Experience handling complex international corporate transactions and significant claims and litigations
Extensive experience of engineering and construction industry contracting practices and applicable government regulations. Typical contract types include: FIDIC, NEC3 and Offshore contracts
Previous experience of negotiating and drafting contractual and settlement agreements
