Join a market-leading in-house litigation, investigations and enforcement team at the heart of Barclays’ most complex and high-profile matters within the UK, Europe and Middle East. As a senior lawyer you will provide expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to internal stakeholders and engage with an array of external stakeholders. Disputes may involve defending claims from customers or third parties or bringing claims to recover Barclays’ assets. You will also work with the team on internal and external investigations. The work is varied, intellectually demanding and genuinely consequential.
Job Responsibility
Advise on and manage claims and potential claims by or against Barclays
Advise on and work within a team managing internal and external investigations and contentious regulatory issues
Proactively work with teams in Barclays’ business to identify and manage legal and regulatory risks
Help to ensure the delivery of functionally excellent litigation and investigations services within Barclays
Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies for managing litigation, investigations and enforcement including the management of external support
Legal advice and support to the bank on contentious legal matters
Representation of the bank in legal proceedings such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations
Creation and review of legal documents relevant to cases, and processes, policies and procedures designed to reduce legal and regulatory risk across the bank
Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws, rules and regulations
Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements
Proactively identifying, communicating, and providing legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations
Requirements
Experience working on financial services matters at a law firm and/or inhouse experience
Proactive, collaborative team player who is commercially aware
General banking law (in a disputes context, or otherwise)
10 or more years of post-practice experience (or equivalent)
English-Qualified lawyer (or equivalent) with litigation and/or enforcement experience
