Job Description

This position is an opportunity for a motivated and curious Legal Counsel to serve in an impactful, business-oriented in-house legal role in the medical device industry, supporting the commercial needs of ZOLL’s businesses in EMEA. As part of the Legal Department, the Counsel will work closely with the business on day-to-day matters advising on operational and commercial legal problems. The position will primarily support ZOLL’s Acute Care Technology (ACT) Division, with ancillary support to ZOLL’s Cardiac Management Solutions Division. As part of the role, the Counsel will be required to delve deeply into the businesses, and exercise meaningful judgment, discretion, time management and organizational intelligence. The Counsel will collaborate with internal stakeholders in various functional areas, including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, HR and Compliance. The position reports to the ACT Division’s Legal Director EMEA. Travel will be 25% of the time mainly to our EMEA offices.

Job Responsibility

  • Draft and Negotiate Contracts: Support in the drafting, review, and negotiation of all forms of contracts and third-party agreements with customers, vendors, and business partners, including agreements necessary for GDPR compliance. Review, manage, and maintain contract templates and Terms & Conditions for EMEA
  • Review Tenders: Assist in reviewing government (including military) tenders for capital equipment and software
  • Advise the Businesses: Provide proactive business-oriented advice to the ZOLL companies in EMEA on a broad range of topics, including general commercial law, contract interpretation, and, in conjunction with other subject-matter experts, healthcare compliance issues, data privacy/protection (GDPR and other privacy laws), and other (new) laws affecting ZOLL’s business across markets
  • Conduct Legal Research: Conducting legal analyses and providing support through legal research on complex matters, identifying and managing risks for the business, and formulating recommendations for action
  • Developing Processes and Training: Assist in the development and/or enhancement of legal processes, procedures and internal training courses, particularly for legal topics relevant to sales

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer (First and Second State Exam in Law)
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house (ideally with medical device or healthcare companies)
  • Strong contractual drafting and analytical skills, combined with pragmatism and business judgment
  • Team player with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and remote teams in a collaborative manner
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and self-disciplined work ethic, with the capacity to re-prioritize in “real time”
