Job Description

Morson Edge is supporting a leading UK infrastructure and construction business in the search for a Construction Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This is a high-impact role providing specialist construction law support across complex projects and contracts. The role offers flexible working with the requirement to travel to the Birmingham office one day per week.

Job Responsibility

  • Advising on NEC-based supply and construction contracts
  • Leading construction contract disputes and adjudications
  • Reviewing and negotiating NEC, JCT, FIDIC and related contracts
  • Supporting project structuring (JVs, alliances, subcontracting)
  • Partnering with commercial teams and Quantity Surveyors
  • Providing risk assessment and governance across regional projects
  • Supporting capex programmes and contractual risk management
  • Delivering training and guidance to the wider business

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (England & Wales)
  • Strong experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects
  • Background in contract drafting, negotiation and risk mitigation
  • Experience managing external legal counsel
  • Strong experience advising on both contentious and non-contentious construction matters
  • Expertise in NEC and JCT contracts (FIDIC experience beneficial)
  • Proven track record managing disputes, including adjudications and claims
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and work cross-functionally
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal issues
  • A collaborative and pragmatic approach in a fast-paced environment

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating heads of terms, letters of intent, supply contracts and grid connection documents
