A well-established, statewide professional association is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support its Legal Department on a temporary basis while a permanent search is underway. This is a fully onsite opportunity in Burlingame and is best suited for a candidate who can step in quickly and work independently in a deadline-driven legal environment.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting attorneys with drafting and formatting pleadings, correspondence, and legal memoranda for review
Filing documents in state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies
Tracking litigation and agency deadlines and maintaining attorney calendars
Conducting routine legal research related to court and agency rules
Managing electronic and paper case files
Updating case management systems, entering time and expenses, and running reports
Communicating with courts, agencies, internal staff, and external contacts as needed
Providing administrative and clerical support for department programs and legal panels
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
relevant legal experience may substitute for degree requirements
Prior experience as a Legal Assistant or Litigation Legal Secretary
Required: State and federal e-filing experience
Preferred: Experience with PERB filings or administrative agency matters
Strong proofreading, formatting, and document production skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Comfortable working onsite five days per week
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
