Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join a leading community-based child welfare organization in Hamilton, ON. In this vital role within our legal and business administration specialization, you will provide high-level administrative, clerical, and legal support to a team of dedicated lawyers and social workers. This position is designed for an individual who operates with a high degree of personal and professional integrity and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Litigation files and court matters
  • Serving and uploading documents to the court
  • Diarizing
  • Affidavits
  • Computer systems related to the court
  • Provide comprehensive legal, administrative, and clerical support to the unit, ensuring all work is prioritized and completed in a timely fashion

Requirements:

  • Paralegal Diploma, Diploma in a legal secretarial program, or certificate in law from a recognized college
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in an administrative legal support position, preferably in a family law practice
  • Successfully completed Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario courses is an asset
  • Respectful and compassionate demeanor with a commitment to anti-oppressive and anti-racist philosophy
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract (if driving is required)
  • Must be bondable with an acceptable police clearance and satisfactory provincial records search
  • Ability to work in person at the Hamilton office location
  • Experience in family law and court matters
