Job Description

A prominent, well-established South Carolina defense firm is expanding its Columbia team. We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a high-volume Collections and Bankruptcy practice. This is an ideal role for a professional who thrives in a focused, "roll-up-your-sleeves" environment and prefers direct, person-to-person collaboration over endless email chains. In this position, you will provide comprehensive case management and administrative support to a Managing Director within a busy practice group. You will be joining an established, collaborative team that includes a Paralegal and a Junior Associate.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the full lifecycle of files, including database maintenance and tracking critical deadlines for hearings, depositions, and trials
  • Draft and proofread essential legal filings such as discovery responses, motions, and subpoenas
  • Execute electronic filings (E-filing) within South Carolina and US District Courts
  • Handle incoming communications, schedule appointments, and coordinate travel logistics for attorneys
  • Engage in frequent in-person briefings with leadership to ensure tasks are aligned and deadlines are met

Requirements

  • 3+ years of legal experience, specifically within litigation or bankruptcy
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Experience with i-Manage or Juris Suite is a significant advantage
  • Highly articulate in both written and verbal interactions
  • Able to manage multiple moving parts in a fast-paced environment while maintaining extreme attention to detail

What we offer

  • Holiday bonus
  • 7.5% Profit Sharing of base salary deposited into your 401(k) after 12 months
  • 50% 401(k) match up to 4%
  • Firm-provided medical, dental, and vision for the employee
  • Firm covers your gym membership
  • 3 weeks of PTO (accrued bi-weekly), increasing with tenure
  • Early closures (12:00 PM) the day before major holidays—paid in full
  • Extended Holiday Break: The firm closes the day before, day of, and day after both Christmas and New Year’s
  • Firm-provided Life Insurance (1x salary) and Long-Term Disability (LTD)
  • Remote flexibility available on a case-by-case basis for family needs or emergencies
