Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team in Ossian, Indiana. This Contract-to-Permanent position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic legal environment, assisting with essential estate planning and probate tasks. The ideal candidate will contribute to the preparation of legal documents, client communication, and administrative support, ensuring the smooth operation of legal processes.

Job Responsibility:

  • Draft and prepare legal documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives under attorney supervision
  • Coordinate client meetings, collect personal and financial information, and maintain consistent communication throughout legal processes
  • Organize and manage digital and physical case files, including deeds, tax records, and court filings
  • Conduct legal research on probate laws, estate taxes, and Medicaid eligibility requirements to support case preparation
  • Prepare and file probate documents with courts, ensuring compliance with deadlines and procedural guidelines
  • Assist clients in transferring assets into trusts by preparing deeds, beneficiary forms, and account updates
  • Manage calendars, schedule appointments, and handle correspondence related to legal matters
  • Operate switchboard systems to manage calls professionally and efficiently
  • Maintain accurate legal documentation and correspondence in compliance with office standards

Requirements:

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in legal document drafting and review
  • Excellent communication skills for client interaction and collaboration with attorneys and court personnel
  • Solid understanding of estate planning terminology and probate procedures
  • Proficiency with legal software, Microsoft Office, and document management systems
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in legal studies preferred
  • paralegal certification is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines, and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with court filing procedures and legal research methods
  • Experience with switchboard systems and calendar management

Nice to have:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in legal studies preferred
  • paralegal certification is a plus
