Our client, a respected law firm specializing in medical malpractice, is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant for a four-month assignment to provide critical support to an experienced of counsel attorney. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a Dictaphone, have strong typing and MS Word skills, and possess the full range of legal assistant competencies necessary for a fast-paced, professional environment.
Job Responsibility:
Transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda from Dictaphone recordings with speed and accuracy
Draft, format, and revise pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents using MS Word
Manage case files, maintain an organized filing system (digital and/or hard copy), and ensure timely document retrieval
Assist with the preparation of trial binders, exhibits, medical chronologies, and summaries
Perform basic legal research and prepare standard reports as directed
File documents with courts and liaise with court personnel as necessary
Screen and route incoming communications for the attorney
Track deadlines and ensure timely calendar management
Support billing processes and time entry as needed
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Requirements:
Demonstrated experience as a Legal Assistant, ideally in medical malpractice or litigation (minimum 1 year)
Proficiency with Dictaphone transcription
Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute
Superior Microsoft Word skills
proficiency in formatting and redlining documents
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple assignments
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced legal environment
