The Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications from accomplished individuals with an earned master’s degree in engineering to serve as Lecturers in the Engineering Fundamentals Division starting in Fall 2026. The successful candidates are expected to teach sections of the relevant courses in Engineering Fundamentals. Occasionally, other engineering courses in one of the four departments with undergraduate programs in the college may also be taught. The successful candidate will work with the program director and other faculty in the division as a team to ensure proper course structure, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment; as well as consistency in course contents and standards. An interest in engineering education best practices, research, and assessment are desirable attributes. Candidates must be committed to contributing to high-quality education of a diverse student body at the undergraduate level and must demonstrate an unwavering commitment to student success.
Job Responsibility:
Teach sections of the relevant courses in Engineering Fundamentals
Occasionally, other engineering courses in one of the four departments with undergraduate programs in the college may also be taught

Ensure consistency in course contents and standards
Requirements:
Master’s degree in engineering or a related field
Must be able to develop and teach fundamental engineering courses
A commitment to project-based learning and student success
Nice to have:
Thorough understanding of principles, practices, and procedures involved in first year experience program development, models, best practices, and current issues as they relate to first-year student transition, development, and retention in engineering programs
Experience in teaching introductory engineering classes, including computer programming instruction (e.g., Matlab, Python, and C++)
Record of involvement in curricular and pedagogical developments in the teaching of engineering
Evidence of active scholarship related to curricular or pedagogical issues in engineering
Experience in supporting the academic success of diverse, underrepresented, or underserved student populations
Ability to collect, analyze, and assess data related to student success, and student learning outcomes
