Are you a geologist passionate about research and teaching? We have an exciting opportunity to contribute to expanding Birkbeck’s teaching and research in the field of geology, earth and environmental sciences. The School of Natural Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London, is looking to appoint a Lecturer in the area of environmental geology or structural geology. You will be part of a vibrant team of researchers in the natural sciences at Birkbeck, and with links to UCL through our strong relationship with the Earth Science Department and Centre for Planetary Science. You will benefit from an outstanding research environment, including state of the art laboratory spaces and high-performance computing resources.
Job Responsibility:
Contribute to the School through teaching, research, and administration
lead an internationally recognised research programme focussed on an area of environmental or structural geology
apply for external funds to support research activities
make a core contribution to BSc programmes in Geology, Environmental Geoscience and Environmental Science
participate in other BSc and MSc programmes related to your area
supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD research students, including in the field
contribute to the organisation of teaching and research activities within the School
be active in knowledge transfer and public engagement
contribute to a range of activities to support the strong collaborative culture of the School
Requirements:
PhD in an area relevant to environmental or structural geology
proven record of publishing high quality research
aptitude for, and experience in, teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
understanding of Birkbeck, its principles of widening participation in higher education, and working with mature, part time, and non-traditional learners from a diversity of backgrounds
commitment to excellence in both research and teaching
commitment to providing a rich learning experience to students with a wide range of skillsets
interest in impact generating and public engagement activities
ability to work collegially, with strong interpersonal, organizational and administration skills, to effectively manage teaching teams
experience in the design, delivery and convening of courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level relevant to your background
