Brandeis University seeks to hire a teaching faculty member in Environmental Science to join the Environmental Studies Program in Fall 2026. This is a two year, part-time appointment outside the tenure structure, covering the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 academic years. It carries a 5 course teaching load spread over the two years (spread over 4 semesters). The Brandeis Environmental Studies Program offers an undergraduate major and minor. We take an interdisciplinary approach to examining environmental issues through coursework in the housed in all four schools at Brandeis University (Arts, Humanities, Social Science and Social Policy, and Science, Engineering and Technology). Our innovative learning programs take students into the field and the community with a focus on experiential learning.
Job Responsibility:
Teach a multidisciplinary introduction to environmental monitoring course (offered each year) and two additional electives
Take an active role in advising undergraduate majors and minors in Environmental Studies
Advise senior theses and independent projects as appropriate
Take an active role in Environmental Studies curriculum and program development
Requirements:
Ph.D. (or an MA/MS and equivalent experience) in environmental science or allied fields in the natural sciences, completed by the time of appointment
Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate level
Expertise in any branch of environmental science (e.g., geology, hydrology, chemistry, physics, sustainability, or biology)
Scientific expertise qualifies them to teach courses complementing current courses in ecology, climate science, oceanography, and participatory science
Ability to teach skills based courses to prepare our students for employment are highly desirable
Candidates with evidence of successful teaching of diverse populations of undergraduates are especially encouraged to apply
