Manchester City Council is seeking a passionate, resilient, and values-driven Personal Advisor to join its Leaving Care Service, supporting young people aged 16–25 as they transition into independent adulthood. This is a rewarding frontline role where you will make a genuine, lasting difference to the lives of care-experienced young people across Manchester.
Job Responsibility:
Manage a caseload and maintain accurate, timely statutory records
Complete Pathway Plan Assessments, reviews and ongoing assessments
Support young people post-21 who wish to return to education or training
Ensure young people’s views and wishes are central to planning and decision-making
Provide practical, flexible support to promote successful transitions to adulthood
Coordinate services and encourage engagement with statutory and voluntary agencies
Identify, supervise and monitor packages of support in the community
Support young people with financial entitlements and budgeting skills
Assist young people to access and sustain appropriate accommodation
Work in partnership to deliver holistic, joined-up support
Promote independence while identifying and reducing risk and vulnerability
Requirements:
Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Confident with IT systems, recording and reporting
Experience working with vulnerable young people or similar client groups
Sound understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
Willingness to apply for and consent to an enhanced DBS
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle daily
Strong understanding of relevant legislation including: Children Act 1989 & 2004, Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000, Children and Families Act 2014, Working Together 2014, Safeguarding, Domestic Abuse awareness
Ability to work flexibly between 08:00 – 20:00, Monday to Friday
