The Contract Leave of Absence (LOA) Consultant partners with the internal Human Resources team to manage employee leave and absence cases from initiation through return to work. This role provides subject‑matter expertise across FMLA, ADA accommodations, and Workers’ Compensation, while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and internal policies. The LOA Consultant plays a key role in risk mitigation, proactively identifying compliance risks, documentation gaps, and process inconsistencies to support legally defensible, consistent, and employee‑centered leave outcomes.
Job Responsibility:
Administer and coordinate leaves and absences including FMLA, ADA accommodations, Workers’ Compensation, medical leaves, parental leave, personal leave, and other company‑sponsored leave programs
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave regulations
Serve as the primary contact for employees regarding leave eligibility, documentation, timelines, and return-to-work processes
Review, evaluate, and process medical certifications, ADA documentation, Workers’ Compensation records, extensions, and return‑to‑work information
Coordinate with payroll, benefits, HR partners, and third-party leave vendors
Mitigate risk by identifying high‑risk cases, compliance gaps, and inconsistencies
recommend and implement corrective actions
Provide consultative guidance on complex, escalated, or sensitive cases to support defensible outcomes
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation within HRIS and leave management systems to support audit readiness
Requirements:
4+ years of experience administering leave of absence programs within an internal HR or HR operations environment
Demonstrated experience independently managing FMLA, ADA accommodations, and Workers’ Compensation cases
Strong working knowledge of federal and multi‑state leave laws, employment regulations, and compliance standards
Proven ability to manage LOA cases end‑to‑end with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and risk mitigation
Experience partnering with HR, legal, payroll, benefits, and risk management teams in a consultative capacity
Strong analytical judgment, documentation, and decision‑making skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice to have:
Experience working with third-party leave administrators
SHRM or HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) a plus
