Job Description:

We are looking for a meticulous Lease Abstractor with strong expertise in commercial real estate to support a lease abstraction (around 50 100-page lease abstracts) project on a contract basis. This role requires re-abstracting legacy leases and ensuring their accuracy while prioritizing legal and operational terms. The position is fully on-site, based in New York, New York, and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the standardization of lease documentation processes.

Job Responsibility:

  • Review and analyze older commercial leases, amendments, and related documents to create accurate lease abstracts
  • Verify and correct inaccuracies in previous lease summaries by cross-referencing source documents
  • Utilize tools such as MRI to compile, annotate, and manage lease data
  • Prioritize legal and operational terms, such as use clauses, exclusivity agreements, options, assignment/subletting provisions, maintenance obligations, insurance requirements, and default remedies
  • Standardize lease abstracts and ensure entries are searchable, properly formatted, and linked to relevant documents in designated systems
  • Locate and remediate missing pages, amendments, exhibits, and correspondence by engaging with landlords, tenants, or internal stakeholders
  • Maintain organized digital folders and ensure complete and accurate document trails
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure document control and version management
  • Adhere to established processes and workflows to support lease operations efficiently

Requirements:

  • Proven legal experience (3-4+ yrs) in lease abstraction, particularly for commercial real estate
  • Strong understanding of lease terms, including operational and legal clauses
  • Proficiency in lease management systems such as MRI, open to Yardi experience
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile complex documents, including amendments and exhibits
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with document management software
  • Competence in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications
  • Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders and address document discrepancies
