Bolton's specialist education sector requires staff who are equipped to handle the practicalities of a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) environment. We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Mentor to work within a local school on a full-time basis. This position is suited to individuals with a background in Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) or those with extensive experience in Primary settings where behaviour management was a primary focus. • Apply consistent behaviour management techniques in line with school policy
  • Work to increase student participation and engagement during classroom activities
  • Facilitate small group sessions focusing on core subject areas and social skills
  • Maintain a calm and controlled presence during periods of pupil escalation
  • Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic progress
  • Help implement and track progress against Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Work alongside the Class Teacher to prepare resources adapted to specific learning needs
  • Support the school's safeguarding and child protection procedures

Requirements

  • A minimum 3 - 6 months UK classroom based experience
  • Competence in behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Availability for full-time work (Monday to Friday) on an ongoing, long-term basis
  • Ability to build professional rapport with students who have disengaged from education
  • Evidence of maintaining high standards of classroom engagement
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to complete a new application
  • A professional and resilient approach to daily tasks

What we offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualification
  • Comprehensive professional development and training opportunities, including specialist SEN interventions and strategies
  • Dedicated Randstad consultant support for career guidance and opportunities
  • Long-term placements available (6 weeks plus)
