A Primary Learning Support Assistant (SEN) plays a crucial role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in primary school settings. This flexible role involves working across different schools to provide tailored support to students, ensuring they have access to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language difficulties
Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Support students with classroom tasks, social skills development, and emotional regulation
Collaborate with class teachers and SENCOs to deliver tailored learning support
Encourage independence and confidence through differentiated learning activities
Manage challenging behaviour using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques
Maintain safeguarding and child protection standards
Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEN in a school setting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents
Ability to adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs
Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and assistive technology
Relevant qualifications such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent) are desirable
Enhanced DBS Check (on the Update Service) or willingness to obtain one
