Job Description:

Learning Support Assistant (LSA) - Specialist SEMH School. A rewarding role helping young people overcome barriers to learning in a specialist SEN school, focusing on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide in-class support to individual pupils or small groups, helping them to access the curriculum and complete learning tasks
  • Assist the class teacher with the preparation of resources and the organisation of the classroom environment
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and specific intervention strategies
  • Be skilled in promoting positive behaviour and supporting pupils with their emotional regulation and social skills development
  • Supervise pupils during non-contact time, such as lunch and break times, ensuring a safe and engaging environment
  • Report on pupil progress and contribute to review meetings, maintaining effective communication with the teaching team
  • Assist with personal care where necessary (training provided)

Requirements:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEN, particularly SEMH needs (highly desirable)
  • Calm, patient, and highly resilient when faced with challenging behaviour
  • Able to build strong, nurturing, and professional relationships with pupils quickly
  • Flexible and adaptable, willing to support across different year groups and subjects as required
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
  • Able to demonstrate excellent teamwork and communication skills
