We are recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school supporting primary and secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This specialist setting provides a nurturing and supportive environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. With small class sizes, a personalised approach to learning and a strong focus on well-being, staff work together to help young people build confidence, resilience and positive outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team, gain valuable experience in SEND and SEMH education, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. Following a successful 12-week placement, you will transfer directly onto the school's permanent staff team.
Job Responsibility
Supporting pupils with SEMH needs
Helping students regulate emotions and develop positive learning behaviours
Working closely with teaching staff to deliver structured classroom support
Acting as a consistent, positive role model for vulnerable learners
Supporting engagement in lessons, routines and school life
Building strong, trusting relationships to promote emotional wellbeing and progress
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work or similar)
GCSE Maths & English (required)
Calm, patient and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively
Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs
