We are seeking a highly skilled and independent 1:1 Learning Support Assistant. The candidate should be adaptable, expert in neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD, PDA), skilled in de-escalation, relational, creative in pedagogy, and strategic in support.
Job Responsibility:
Work closely with the Class Teacher and SENDCo
Use own initiative to navigate the school day
Scaffold tasks to be SEND-friendly and accessible
Teach math through creative methods
Use structured choices and engagement-led learning
Collaborate on planning during PPA time
Requirements:
Adaptability: The ability to 'scaffold in the moment'-making a task SEND-friendly and accessible without needing constant direction
Expertise in Neurodiversity: Significant experience or understanding of ASD, ADHD, and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profiles
De-escalation Skills: A master of low-demand strategies and 'thinking on your feet' when things don't go to plan
Relational Approach: A commitment to working in a trauma-informed way, building a strong bond based on trust rather than high-pressure demands
Creative Pedagogy: You might find yourself teaching math through outdoor play-like using chalk to draw clocks on the pavement-rather than sitting at a desk
Strategic Support: Using structured choices and engagement-led learning to bypass demand-avoidance triggers
Collaborative Planning: While we expect independence, we support our staff. PPA time is specifically provided for 1:1 planning to ensure you have the space to adapt resources effectively
