We are currently seeking a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary SEND school located in the Burgess Hill area. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support students with autism, helping them engage in learning, grow in confidence, and develop essential life skills within a supportive and structured setting. This role would suit someone with prior experience in SEND who is eager to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives. There is potential for the position to become permanent following a 12-week period, subject to a successful interview with the school. Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm.
Job Responsibility
Provide support to secondary-aged students with autism, both one-to-one and in small group settings
Assist in delivering personalised learning activities tailored to individual needs
Promote independence, confidence, and positive social interaction
Support students with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies
Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to maintain a calm, inclusive classroom environment
Encourage the development of communication and everyday life skills
Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND (essential)
Good understanding of autism and effective support strategies
A patient, flexible, and positive approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
A genuine passion for supporting young people to reach their full potential
