Job Description

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can truly transform a young person's future? We are recruiting a resilient, professional, and empathetic Learning Mentor to join our dedicated Alternative Provision team in Plymouth. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in youth work, behaviour support, or SEN coaching who want to help vulnerable students re-engage with education and achieve their full potential.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide tailored 1:1 mentorship to young people, supporting their transition back into a stable classroom environment
  • Develop and execute bespoke behavioural and academic strategies to facilitate student progress
  • Lead educational and social development sessions outside the classroom, utilising local community spaces
  • Build strong, trusting relationships and maintain regular communication with parents, carers, and multi-agency teams

Requirements

  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for community-based learning sessions
  • Experience working with young people displaying challenging behaviour, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, or within an alternative provision/PRU setting is highly desirable
  • Exceptional communication, active listening, and conflict-de-escalation skills
  • A calm, patient, and solution-focused mindset with the emotional resilience required for challenging educational environments
