We are looking for a resilient, high-energy Learning Mentor to join a small, specialised school in the Plymouth area. This is not a standard "classroom assistant" role; you will be the bridge between a student's emotional well-being and their academic progress. You will be working with 1:1 with a child with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. For these students, success is built on trust and consistency. If you can be that reliable, steady adult in their lives, you can change their entire educational trajectory.
Job Responsibility:
Targeted Support: Working 1:1 to help students engage with their learning
Mentoring: Helping students regulate their emotions, build self-esteem, and develop positive social behaviours
Community & Outreach: Using your vehicle to support students in off-site learning activities or transitions (mileage/bridge/ferry is typically reimbursed when with a child)
Core Skills: Assisting students in achieving their GCSE English and Maths
Requirements:
Driving Licence: Must have a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
Education: Minimum of GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
Experience: Previous experience working with SEMH children (this could be in a school, youth work, personal, or residential care setting)
Commitment: Must be available full-time for at least 3 months, as our students require stable, long-term relationships
What we offer:
Training Provided: We offer a full week of paid induction and training before you start to ensure you feel confident in our specific therapeutic approaches
Small School Feel: You aren't just a number
you are a vital part of a tight-knit, supportive team
Permanent Potential: We are looking for people who want to grow with us-this role often leads to a permanent contract for the right person
