Job Description

We’re looking for a player-coach to lead our small, but impactful Product Analytics & Data Science team. This role blends hands-on analytical work with people leadership, stakeholder management, and strategic prioritization. The ideal candidate will enjoy balancing deep dives into data with guiding and mentoring a small team of data professionals. You’ll oversee a small team of experienced data engineers and help hire a new data analyst, while personally contributing to high-leverage data projects. You’ll partner closely with Product, Customer Experience, Field, and Business Systems teams to connect product usage with customer value — helping Benchling serve both our internal stakeholders and external users more effectively. This role is suited to someone who enjoys operational stability, is energized by cross-functional collaboration, and can help advocate for data-driven work even when headcount and resources are limited but where sustained, meaningful impact is both possible and expected.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and support a small, dedicated team of data engineers and analysts through mentorship, technical guidance, and priority setting

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in data analytics or data science
  • fluency with tools like SQL, Python or R, and cloud data environments
  • 3+ years of experience managing individual contributors
  • experience leading small teams and balancing hands-on work with people management
  • excel at stakeholder management, particularly in navigating competing priorities and advocating for data-informed work
  • comfortable working within constraints and know how to drive meaningful progress in low-investment environments
  • enjoy translating complex data into actionable insights and take pride in making systems and people work better together
