The Lead Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles to ensure safe, reliable operation and full compliance with State of West Virginia and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. This position requires advanced mechanical expertise, strong organizational skills, and the ability to respond to roadside mechanical issues as needed. The transportation vehicle fleet at Adventures on the Gorge includes passenger buses, vans, fire trucks fitted for rafts, and cars. Solid understanding of operations and the needs of the fleet are important for this role.
Job Responsibility:
Examine, diagnose, and determine necessary repairs for a wide range of vehicles including compact cars, pickup trucks, minibuses, heavy-duty flatbeds, and buses
Perform repairs and maintenance on engine, transmission, electrical, hydraulic, and air systems
Inspect all fleet vehicles to ensure compliance with West Virginia state inspection requirements, DOT regulations, and FMCSA safety standards
Conduct and document safety inspections including tire condition and safety, brake adjustments, emergency exits and safety equipment
Order correct replacement parts and manage repair scheduling to minimize vehicle downtime
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities for internal use and regulatory agencies
Respond to mechanical issues that occur on the road including traveling to remote locations, performing roadside repairs, and assessing situations
Provide technical leadership and oversight of fleet maintenance operations
Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures
Requirements:
Proven experience diagnosing and repairing light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicles
Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and West Virginia vehicle inspection standards
Ability to independently assess mechanical issues and determine appropriate corrective actions
Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills
Willingness and ability to travel to off-site locations for emergency or roadside repairs
Ability to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
West Virginia State Inspection Certificate (required or ability to obtain)
Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement and Passenger endorsement (required or ability to obtain)
