Job Description

Arrowhead’s Tribal Program is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Lead Underwriter to join our team. This individual will play a pivotal role in cultivating strong broker partnerships, driving creative underwriting solutions, and influencing the direction of our Tribal business. With a high degree of autonomy, the Lead Underwriter will be empowered to make impactful decisions that support growth, profitability, and innovation.

Job Responsibility

  • Build and maintain deep, trust-based relationships with key brokers to drive new business and retain renewals
  • Lead strategic broker engagement, including account planning, pipeline development, and performance reviews
  • Develop creative and customized underwriting solutions for complex risks, leveraging cross-functional collaboration with engineering, claims, and loss control
  • Exercise underwriting authority to make timely, informed decisions that align with business goals and risk appetite
  • Influence leadership and contribute to the strategic direction of the Tribal Program through market insights and portfolio analysis
  • Analyze loss trends and claims data to inform underwriting strategy and risk mitigation plans
  • Communicate the program’s value proposition and risk appetite clearly and effectively to broker partners
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless service delivery and continuous improvement
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives that support innovation and growth

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or five or more years of commercial insurance or managing general agency experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of multi-line P&C lines of business, including product features, forms, regulatory environments, risks, etc.
  • Proven underwriting experience, ideally within Tribal or specialty lines
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and solve complex problems
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to influence and lead initiatives
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Comfortable working independently and making high-impact decisions
  • Routine or periodic travel which may require the teammate to drive their own vehicle or a rental vehicle
