Job Responsibility

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team
  • Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability
  • Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights, safety, and dignity are upheld at all times
  • Apply all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to theatre operations, ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards
  • Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, recovery staff, and wider hospital teams to ensure effective patient flow and continuity of care

Requirements

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers
  • Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance
  • Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification [for scrub leads]
  • ENB 998 and/or mentorship course
  • Approved / recognised anaesthetic course
  • ILS
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills
