We are currently recruiting for a Lead Technical Safety Consultant to join our team. The post will reside within the Independent Advice and Assurance Directorate, situated within Amentum’s Assurance, Technology and Regulation (AT&R) Division Unit. AT&R aim to provide world leading consultancy services across highly regulated industries. In line with our strategy to grow into new industries, locations and technologies, we are seeking to expand our Defence portfolio into other safety critical areas beyond nuclear safety. This will be a leadership role with line management responsibility.
Job Responsibility:
Developing the Independent Advice and Assurance Technical Safety business line beyond nuclear safety
Leading a team of technical safety consultants to deliver high-quality outputs to meet client requirements
Contributing to the development of a functional strategy across the wider Energy and Environment – International (E&E-I) business within Amentum
Leading project teams to plan, develop and execute proposals to achieve milestones and objectives, and meet client requirements
Providing high quality reports and artefacts in support of client tasks
Providing authoritative advice on technical safety regulations and their application to develop compliant solutions
Acting as a technical safety subject matter expert in at least one domain (e.g. Land, Maritime, Air or Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives)
Maintaining and upholding the Amentum culture, codes of conduct and safety standards
Requirements:
Degree level qualification (RQF/CQFW Level 6), preferably Masters level (RQF/CQFW Level 7), in an appropriate technical discipline
Experience within either the regulated environment at a management level, or safety regulator environment, with at least 10 years’ experience in the application of technical safety engineering in high-hazard environments
Ability to evaluate complex challenges, extract key safety insights, and present findings effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and well-structured technical documentation for diverse audiences
Experience within Defence acquisition and of the associated safety regulations, policies, standards and procedures, such as JSPs 815 and 376, DSA Regulations, ASEMS POSMS, Defence Standards 00-056, 00-970, etc
Chartered membership of an appropriate technical professional body, preferably at Fellow level
Nice to have:
Good understanding of the Defence operating environment and the operational model at an organisational level
Experience within the Air Domain
A recognised RQF/CQFW Level 3 Health and Safety qualification
A recognised Lead Auditor qualification with experience of leading, planning and conducting audits
Experience of managing projects to meet client requirements, milestones and objectives, preferably supported by an appropriate project management qualification
Ability to work independently across a range of tasks, with guidance in only the most complex situations
Flexibility with the ability to travel as the demands of the role dictates
