Job Description

As a Lead System Designer at Cytiva, you will play a central role in shaping the functionality, quality, and regulatory compliance of our customized bioprocess solutions. You will be the technical anchor throughout the project lifecycle, and responsible for translating customer needs into specifications and system designs, guiding cross‑functional engineering teams, and ensuring that internal, external, and regulatory requirements are fully captured and implemented. This role sits at the heart of our Custom Engineering organization, where you will collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Automation design engineers, as well as Production, Manufacturing, Service, and Verification teams. Most projects are customer‑specific, run for 6–12 months, and involve cross‑functional teams of 8–10 colleagues. Because Cytiva serves customers worldwide, the role may include occasional international travel and periodic early or late calls depending on customer location.

Job Responsibility

  • Interpret customer specifications and translate them into clear system requirements and design solutions
  • Lead and participate in internal and external design reviews, representing the system design perspective
  • Coordinate design activities across Mechanical, Electrical, and Automation engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive system integration
  • Select components and equipment that meet functional, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance of the product throughout the design process
  • Collaborate with Production, Verification, Manufacturing, and Service teams to support smooth project execution and product lifecycle continuity
  • Represent the design team during customer acceptance testing, providing technical expertise and ensuring successful handover

Requirements

  • MSc or BSc in Engineering, Physics, or Biotechnology, or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Previous experience in product or process development with a strong technical interest
  • Quality-focused, preferably with experience in project management and in regulated environments
  • Enjoy working in smaller teams and have excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter—energized and results-oriented
  • Service-minded, comfortable leading others, and a strong problem solver
  • Proficient in both Swedish and English, written and spoken
