Based at GE Power Conversion Chennai site the Lead Commissioning Engineer’s role is an exciting opportunity for an action-oriented individual with technical foundation of Power Conversion equipment. All resources and logistics required to perform services and maintenance activities on customers site/property. These activities contribute to maintain, repair and refurbish sold or existing products. Includes all types of maintenance service (preventive and remedial), lead maintenance facilities and field services engineering. This role will require frequent traveling up to 100 % to various client sites throughout India and abroad. Highly technically challenging career role to work on the state-of-the-art high performance and high accuracy controllers drive customer fulfilment, while you collaborate across the globe with key functional teams and enhance your strategic business acumen. The Lead Commissioning Specialist develops practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals. In this role you are responsible for work that is less defined in scope, utilize your understanding and experience to execute business objectives, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Job Responsibility:

  • To conduct Factory and Routine acceptance test at factory
  • Support new product testing and develop the young engineers
  • Serve as the primary GE on-site or mobile representative and Lead the site as a Site In Charge (SIC) or Site Manager (SM) to an assigned customer / Project
  • Commissioning of the Medium voltage or low voltage variable speed drives with Medium voltage switchgear
  • Provide program leadership, technical direction, and assistance to the customer, user, and other GE field personnel in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of assigned product lines
  • Perform on-site installation of systems and equipment and ongoing preventive maintenance, repair and calibration after installation
  • Respond to requests for emergency repairs and services to troublesome equipment
  • Provide technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, calibration, repair and maintenance at customer's sites
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to skilled labor performing work on customer sites
  • Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards
  • Knowledge to troubleshoot and provide routine maintenance checkout for wide range of equipment vintage
  • Apply Six Sigma analytical tools to assist the customer with proactive reliability and management
  • Assist customer with improving reliability and reducing cost of ownership
  • Provide single point of contact to the customer, customer team, and all other GE stakeholders
  • Assist the factory with data collection and timely reporting to facilitate fleet performance analysis, including marketing intelligence and sales opportunities for services, and support
  • Assist customer with spare parts ordering, issues resolution, and provisioning
  • All activities related to the testing and validation of an equipment, facility, or plant in accordance to the design objectives or specifications for operational use
  • Suggests continuous improvements in products, processes, and procedures
  • Works together with other global business unit across the continents
  • Works on the basis of predefined contracts and frameworks with the well-planned execution
  • Promote and adhere to culture of Safety, Quality & Compliance within the I&C COE teams
  • Participate in project reviews with PM to identify commissioning challenges early and help implement improvement plans
  • Partner with PM’s to improve accuracy of commissioning
  • Lead commissioning scope fulfilment to improved convergence of ‘’as sold V ‘’as executed’’ commissioning budgets
  • Owns Customer Satisfaction
  • Commissioning of the Medium voltage and low voltage variable speed drives
  • Medium voltage drive switch gear, transformer, motor and associated equipment commissioning
  • Site report preparation, planning and execution
  • Investigating technical problems, diagnosing/repairing faults
  • Needs to work closely with the global project team

Requirements:

  • Masters/ Bachelors/Diploma Degree from accredited college / university in Electrical Engineering or allied Engineering
  • 7 – 20 years of relevant experience
  • Should have process knowledge of Metal or Marine or oil and gas or Test Bench
  • Knowledge in Power Electronics and High voltage Equipment
