Job Description:

The Lead Radiation Therapist reports to the Director of Radiation Oncology Services. The Lead Radiation Therapist, under direct supervision of the radiation oncologist, administers radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed. Accuracy in positioning the beam of radiation to correspond with the designated treatment area and accurately delivering the prescribed dose are paramount job functions. The Lead Radiation Therapist adheres to the Parrish Medical Center / Parrish Radiation Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards as well as ASRT standards for this position. The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice® and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.

Job Responsibility:

  • Accurately delivers and records radiation therapy treatments as prescribed under the direction of a radiation oncologist and Medical Physicist
  • Accurately enters and maintains patient daily treatment parameters into electronic medical record / record and verify
  • Apply the principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patients, self and others
  • Applying principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care
  • Reviews treatment record prior to treatment or simulation utilizing the timeout procedure, to identify correct patient, correct treatment area and correct parameters of the prescription
  • Reports deviations from the standard or planned treatment to the medical physicist and radiation oncologist
  • Participates in weekly meeting(s) with the center director
  • Creates and maintains a therapist work/vacation schedule
  • Assists in evaluation of center employees
  • Maintains a daily spreadsheet of patients treated, on hold, simulated and other data as required
  • Reviews patient treatment charts for accuracy
  • Participate in clinical instruction of newly hired therapists and students as needed
  • Assists in maintaining the daily patient treatment schedule, simulation schedule and submitting correct billing information
  • Accurately cuts electron blocks, when applicable
  • Preforms patient simulations utilizing a CT for treatment planning. Documenting patient simulation setup parameters for treatment
  • Accurately makes and records information regarding custom molds and positioning devices
  • Accurately completes simple mu calculations as required
  • Accurately interprets a computerized treatment plan
  • Maintains professional, clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Coordinates, performs and monitors daily quality control procedures for all treatment equipment
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area

Requirements:

  • Graduate from a 2-year accredited (JRCERT) radiation therapy technology program
  • 3 years' experience as an RT (T), minimum
  • With supervisory experience preferred
  • ARRT RT (T) certification required
  • Valid Florida DOH Radiology Technology License
  • BCLS through The American Heart Association (within 90 days of employment)
