The Lead Project Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering deliverables that meet contractual, schedule and budget requirements for renewable energy projects. Renewable energy projects under supervision will include utility-scale solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, gravity storage projects, and combined-technology in the North American region. The Project Engineer provides support to the Business Development, Engineering, Construction and Operational phases of projects, to ensure compliance with the project requirements, from the initial design to the final commissioning stage
Job Responsibility:
Lead and coordinate the engineering team for performing due diligences, feasibility studies, design for permitting and detailed design (shop drawings and IFC drawings)
Lead and coordinate, while interfacing with the other units within the organization, the engineering team for preparing the technical part of the business case for any new opportunity to be submitted to the Project's Sponsor (Organization Investment Committee)
Perform the overall planning of the project's design activities
Estimate the costs related to the construction
Plan and execute, by managing the engineering team, all the engineering activities needed for any RFPs related to services, supply and works (preparation of the technical package to be provided to procurement function within the organization, bids technical evaluation, bids ranking and contracts negotiation)
Coordinate design review meetings, conducts technical analysis of design modifications and non-conformities during construction phase
Ensure the engineering support to the other units of the organization for completing the handover of the project to the operation and maintenance (O&M) function of the organization
Prepare project status reports for communicating with team members and other project stakeholders, whether they are internal (at all organizational levels) or external to the organization
Provide feedback for the continuous improvement of the design methodologies to the Head of the Design Unit
Support the Project Manager in managing technical interfaces towards the local area/country O&M and other organizations
Collaborate with the renewable/thermal Project Engineer (mainly solar, wind, or gas) on integrated storage + renewable/thermal projects
Define the CapEx estimation for the main project items, in collaboration with other E&C units, Business Development and Procurement
Prepare investment committee technical reports in collaboration with other E&C units, Business Development and Procurement
Prepare and review purchasing technical specification for equipment/materials or services
Manage external engineering service contracts, the engineering section of any EPC contracts and/or any needs related to engineering activities
Supplier scouting and follow-up
Must be available for domestic and international travel for meetings and for on-site support
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Master’s degree is preferred
3+ years’ experience in project-based engineering activities in a technical discipline (Civil, Electrical, etc.)
3+ years’ experience supporting the development, engineering, and execution phases of building Utility Scale renewable power plants (Wind, Solar, BESS, etc.)
Solid background in distribution and transmission system regulations and design
Knowledge of different standards like ANSI, IEEE, NEC, UL, NFPA
Basic knowledge of grid connection process
Basic knowledge of H&S laws and regulations
Basic economics general knowledge
Ability to manage contracts with suppliers
Ability to work within a global framework and a matrix organization
Ability in working within multidisciplinary and multicultural team
Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Leadership and influencing skills
Ability to create working team environment and to build trust with all the stakeholders
